Getting Married in Greece

Marriage Requirements


Greece recognizes both civil and religious ceremonies.  To apply for a Marriage License you must publish a Notice of Marriage in a local newspaper or Town all for no less than eight days.  Each party must also write a separate notice in Greek.  You’ll ten need to apply for your Marriage License and have with you valid passports, residency permits (if applicable), birth certificates in English along with a Greek translation and Apostille Stamp.  If you or your spouse to be is divorced or widowed, you must also sow relevant papers.  A Certificate of No Impediment is also necessary and must be in English and Greek and notarized at the relevant embassy together with copies of the newspaper in which your Notices where published.  A Marriage License normally takes about seven days after submission to receive and is valid for six months.  You’ll then need to request the Mayor’s permission to marry and he will set a date.  To gather more information, please click HERE.
