Getting Married in Iceland

Marriage Requirements


To get married in Iceland, you must send copies of your documents two weeks prior to your intended wedding date. Each party must be 18 years or older and will need the following documents:  proof that they are legally staying on the island- airline ticket, passport stamp or residency permit, birth certificates, form of no impediment signed by both parties, certificate of marital status, and death or divorce papers if applicable.  Two reputable witnesses are also needed.  Copies of the documents can be sent by fax, and the originals most e receive no later than five days prior to your wedding date.  Once your ceremony has been conducted you can then obtain a marriage Certificate from the national Registry Office.  To gather more information, please click HERE.
